Pervasive Systems

We build middleware and meta-protocols for pervasive computing and mobile internet-of-things. A key idea is to support unplanned combination of services of different devices, and to configure such combinations without the need for detailed programming. To this end, we have developed a platform called the PalCom system

To validate the ideas we build prototype applications and demonstrators within different application areas, for example healthcare, consumer electronics, and mobile robotics. In the healthcare area, several applications are now gradually taken into active use. One small example is the computation of intercranial blood flow through the integration of sensor data. A larger example is itACiH (IT support for Advanced Home Care), a support system for remote care and mobile care teams, integrating devices in patients' homes with systems at the clinic, as well as with devices of mobile care takers.

The PalCom system is continuously further developed, and builds on development in earlier projects, including several VINNOVA-financed projects within the Network programming programme, and the EU IST project PalCom, where a first open-source platform was developed.
